Why Your Blog Sucks

Why does your blog suck? I already know what it is before I even look at it. Yeah, I am sure the content is awesome. That’s not your problem. Your problem is that you are so worried about making money that you are scaring away any potential subscribers. Seriously, your greed has made your blog unappealing to readers. If you don’t have any readers how will you make money? Let me explain.
Aaron Wall just did a video on “How Aggressive Ad Placement Kills Websites” I added his video at the end of this post for you to view. It is about 5 minutes long. The point Aaron is making is that ads can hurt your business especially community based sites, such as a blog. If ads are the first thing people see… it gives a bad first impression.
What is your blogs priority? To make money? Right! Wrong! Your first goal is to create a readership and a following. Without them who will you sell to? If someone has come to your blog for information and they are hit with ad after ad, they’ll leave or they may click and ad. But you gain to make more money from people who come back regularly.
In order to be successful you need quality and trust. Trust with the engines and with the readers. When readers see ads first, it tells then you care more about money. You can’t build a community if people are leaving before joining your community. You can’t build trust with the engines without links. Who is going to link to a site littered with ads? No one, that’s who.
Oh, and if you don’t have a blog and you sell a product or service and you have ads on it. You are even worse off. Why? You are telling your visitors that your products suck and you don’t make enough money with them so you need to make money with ads.
When you place ads on your site and you are trying to sell a service or products, is just bad business. Would you hang your competitors ad in your window? Print their number on your business card? No, but you sell yourself out and your companies image when you place ads on your site. What you need to understand is… what you sell is worth more to you than a click for a few pennies. You are trading in a lifetime customer for a few nickel and dimes.
