Every blogger needs traffic. Traffic equals revenue. There are several ways to get traffic. You can pay for it, get it free from organic search or from incoming links. Social networking is one of those sources. Many bloggers add social bookmarking buttons to their blogs in hopes users will come and socially bookmark their site.

The fact of the matter is, no one is going to. At least not off the bat. Especially, if you aren’t already getting traffic. If your site has no traffic… having social bookmarking buttons will not help you. You need to go and bookmark your posts yourself. There is no crime or shame in bookmarking your own posts. What are you going to do? Write a whole bunch of great posts no one will read?

Socially bookmarking your own posts will get fresh eyes to your new post and blog. People who enjoy the post will then bookmark it as well. Which will hopefully start increasing your readership. Keep track of your analytics. See what topics and what networks bring in the most traffic. Knowing this will help you hone your topics towards certain networks. Just don’t over do it. Spamming any social network will get you banned.

The traffic won’t always be targeted, but you want eyes on your pages to click your ads or buy advertising. Capture readers by having them subscribe to your feed. That list of subscribers will be your key to making money.
