I have been doing business on the internet since 1998. I started in web design and learned SEO and have been doing it for several years. One thing that really gets under my skin is when people try to sell a useless service.

I know a lot of online marketers that swear the $29.00 a month to get into all the engines is worth the money. The best line is “get listed in 24 - 48 hours guaranteed”.  Really? OMFG I got to have this!

Two things you need to know about this that will change how you think when you hear search engine submissions.

 1. Getting listed in 24 - 48 hours is easy. You can do it for free and it takes 10 seconds. All you need to do is Digg your site. Your site will be in Google’s index within 24 hours in most cases.

2. Just because you’ve been submitted and indexed in the engines doesn’t mean you’ll rank for any terms any time soon.  It takes 6 - 12 months before your site will rank for any good terms and that is only if you work your butt off on link building.

Other facts: Once the engines find your sites, they come back automatically. They know it’s there and will come back to crawl your site over and over. So paying monthly to get into engines you are already in is a waste of money.

The majority of search traffic comes from Google, Yahoo, MSN, and ASK. Why you feel you need to pay to be in 3,000 search engines is beyond me. If you are one of these people that submit to all these sites, I’d like to know how many of those engines are bringing you traffic.

Oh, and Google doesn’t like being hit with submissions for the same site over and over and you can risk being banned. Just another reason to stay away from these submission services.
