One sure-fire way not to make money blogging

I read a lot of blogs.. I mean a lot. I’d say about 200 blogs or more a week. Some give me ideas, some knowledge and some are for pure enjoyment. I always look to see how a blog makes money. Some people have it down to a science.. while others have no clue what to do. Now, some blogs generate revenue because they receive a lot of traffic and so they sell pagesviews. Others join affiliate programs and some do both.
What pisses me off is seeing blogs that talk about marketing, SEO and even business placing the Widgetbucks widget on the side bar of their blog. Widgetbucks offers products you can sell on your blog or site. Great if you do product reviews, but for a business blog to be selling VANS or an xbox 360 is a huge leap. Seriously, if I want an xbox 360 I am not going to buy it from your blog. It’s a bit of a stretch don’t you think? Same with auction ads… selling something on an unrelated blog does absolutely nothing for you or your readers. It comes across as being desperate and not knowing what your readers want and need. Are you hoping someone will say…”WOW!! I am glad I came here to read about how to make money online, now I’ll buy a new camera for Mom while I’m here.” Please…
I have a flash arcade site and as a test I added WidgetBucks. I made sure what was shown was related to gaming since people who play online games are likely to play games at home. So far I am converting at 0.25%. What do you think sites that have totally unrelated ads are getting. I mean sure… you’ll get some clicks. It’s a numbers game.. but related content is what help sells the offer.
Don’t do your blog a disservice by offering unrelated advertising. The key to making money is to have advertisements that will interest your readers. That in turn will increase your revenue. Just don’t grab every new money making widget that comes out.

I have learned that advertising your internet business online doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money. As an internet marketer you can get yourself free traffic by using other people’s lists. These are called safelists. Your free member allows you to email to hundreds, sometime thousands, of prospects. Safelists have worked well for me. Be warned that for the majority of the safelists you will be opting in to receive other marketers offers. It’s best to open free email accounts ie. gmail, to handle all the email. Do not use your primary email!
