In order to make money blogging you need to blog. I do about 5 – 15 posts a week on different blogs. So I am no stranger to writers block. If you can’t write a good post, you have no way of making money. You could try to pull a half baked idea out of your hat, but you already know that will make for a bad post. So what do you do? How do you get ideas or motivation to post?

Well you’re reading one right now, a blog. Reading other related blogs will give you ideas. Ideas that will give way to new ideas. Don’t just take someone else idea and re-write it, unless you plan to mention their post in yours… which would be a good idea. I find reading other blogs gives me ideas on topics I can discuss.

I like to use Google Alerts for topics I am interested in, especially news stories. We all know topical information is the key to drive traffic to your blog, especially if you are using social networks to drive traffic to your site. Google Alert lets me find blogs that are writing about similar topics. These blogs give me an opportunity to make friends and to get ideas.

Some other great topic ideas are…

  • You can ask for quest posts. Guest posts give you content while the writer gains exposure. If you would like to guest post on this blog, let me know. As long as the post is topical and it’s not a selfish plug, I’ll post it. It has to be original content just for this site.
  • Interviews work well. Go to a fellow blogger and ask to interview them. The great thing about this is, not only will you get material for your blog, but the interviewee will most likely link to it.
  • You can also review a service, program or company. Just remember to keep it related to the theme of your blog.
  • If you need to, compile a list of resources. But be creative about it, don’t just expand on one that has already been created, unless it’s a huge improvement.
  • Take a poll and then write about the results.
